Michael Vernon, 74, Verona PA, killed in crash

Tragic O’Hara Township Collision Caused by Drunk Driver

In a devastating incident on Tuesday along Freeport Road in O’Hara Township, it is suspected that the driver involved in a fatal crash may have been under the influence. The collision, occurring at the junction of Freeport Road and Powers Run Road, resulted in the tragic death of 74-year-old Michael Vernon, while his wife Margaret Vernon sustained critical injuries, leading to additional surgeries on Thursday. Remarkably, the woman driving the other vehicle, accompanied by a baby in the backseat, emerged unharmed.

The identity of the driver is being withheld at this point, as she has not yet faced charges. Allegheny County homicide detectives are currently conducting an investigation into the incident. The collision, which took place around 6:30 p.m. near the intersection of Freeport and Powers Run roads, involved Michael Vernon as the front-seat passenger in a Chevrolet SUV driven by his wife Margaret.

Margaret is currently in critical but stable condition and undergoing treatment, while Michael succumbed to his injuries at UPMC Mercy hospital in Pittsburgh. The collision occurred when the Chevrolet collided with a Jeep SUV driven by a 28-year-old woman, who had an infant in the rear seat. Both the woman and the child were transported to area hospitals and are reported to be in stable condition. Our top Pennsylvania car accident lawyers are here to help.
