A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Newfield on Tuesday afternoon resulted in the death of a 17-year-old and left another teen with serious injuries. The New York State Police reported that the crash happened on state Route 34, Danby Road, near Piper Road in the Town of Newfield, south of Ithaca, around 12:50 p.m. on Dec. 12.

According to the police, the crash involved a Toyota Yaris, a Jeep Patriot, and a Cadillac CT6 sedan. The Toyota Yaris, driven by 18-year-old Dale T. Beeman of Spencer, rear-ended the Jeep Patriot, which was stopped behind a vehicle that was making a turn. The Toyota Yaris then crossed into the oncoming lane and slammed into the Cadillac CT6 sedan.

The passenger of the Toyota Yaris, 17-year-old Peyton Shaw, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver, Dale T. Beeman, was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, where he remains in critical condition. The drivers of the Jeep Patriot and the Cadillac CT6 sedan escaped the crash without injuries and declined medical treatment.
