Newark police veteran dies in fiery turnpike crash
A retired Newark detective who served for over 30 years, including on the mayor’s protection unit and as security for Farrakhan, died in a turnpike crash last week, his friends said. The crash occurred on Friday, Dec. 22, at 4:28 a.m. on the southbound New Jersey Turnpike at milepost 59.9, according to New Jersey State Police Detective Jeffrey Lebron. Lebron said a Freightliner tractor-trailer rear-ended a Mercury, which veered off the road, hit a concrete barrier and burst into flames, killing the driver.
